Retro - not quite

Just a pre blog photo from Term 1

Rugby Showdown

Reid (No 9) directing traffic.

Wesley had a great game in defense and attack.
With 2 of the 3 rugby players in Room 6 playing for Clive and the other playing for Taradale, the Clive vs Taradale game had had plenty of discussion during the week.  Saturday morning dawned and unfortunately Reif was sick, so it was just Wesley and Reid competing for bragging rights.  It turned out to be a close game with both boys contributing well in their positions.  (Game report to follow but it was a narrow win to Clive)

Saturday Hockey

GOAL!  Grace gets the first of her 2 goals.

Aimee - walking on air in attack!
The senior team had their best game of the season against Puketapu with determined play by all. (game report to follow)

Weekly Habits of Mind certificate

Week 2 certificate went to Wesley for "Asking Questions and Posing Problems".

Congratulations Wesley - keep up the great communication!

Hockey

It was the Red and Blacks againast the Black and Reds as Haumoana took on Te Mata on Saturday afternoon. Mya, Madeline and Ana gave it their best in the closest game of the season.
Ana - about to clear the ball.  She had a great game as goalie.

Mya going back in support.

Rugby

Reif and Wesley play for the Clive Rugby Club and were in the thick of the action as they beat Havelock North on Saturday.

TERM 3 LEARNING

The focus for Room 6 for Term 3 is
"Reach for the Stars"

Firstly, we will be learning about Olympic history and the current Olympics.  The star focus will continue with a scientific look at our Solar System.  Towards the end of term, we will be sharing information on an 'inspirational athlete' in our speech competitions.

The school goal for Habits of Mind is to 'Respond with Wonderment and Awe' or simply 'Go Wow' which should be easy to achieve as we complete our topic work.  The class goal this term is 'Accuracy and Precision'

Remember to check out the 'upcoming events' section of the blog for dates.

New Students

We lost Aidan to Canada at the end of last term but Room 6 has had 2 new additions to the class.
Welcome to Patrick - ex Auckland and Samoa and Anthony - ex Christchurch.  Both boys have made a good start to the term and Haumoana School life by joining the interschool hockey teams.  Anthony has also become a school librarian.

Weekly Habits of Mind Certificate

This week the certificate goes to Caleb for 'striving for accuarcy' with spelling which has lead to a fantastic improvement in his results!  Well done Caleb.

REP TRIALS

Congratulations and good luck to all the children from Room 6 who have been asked to participate in representative trials for soccer and rugby.

Soccer - James, Will, George and Tessa

Rugby - Reif, Reid and Wesley

Congratulations also to Laura who has qualified for the Junior National for gymnastics.

What a talented bunch!!!

1st Sophie - 2774pts
2nd Lars - 2217pts
3rd Will - 2031pts

You may have noticed that you need to complete a statistics task before choosing your favourite subject or Live Mathletics.  I will be setting tasks like this for homework next term.  Remember if you find the task too difficult, you need to discuss your levels with me. :-)

Round 2 of the Bike X series was part of the Cyclocross National Championships held at EIT on Sunday. There was a more interesting and challenging course for the children's race this weekend. A small group from Haumoana School entered with only Wesley, finishing 3rd, representing Room 6.

Next event - Roys Hill in 2 weeks!

Haumoana dominated the podium - Zac finished 2nd and Wesley 3rd

Accentuate the Positive

Room 6 in action in the dress rehearsal.

Another successful Haumoana Production!  All children looked liked they thoroughly enjoyed their moment in the spotlight.  It was also great to see the ex-students from HNI return to support their old school.  (I have videos of Haumoana in Harmony, The Dance Group and all other classes available if parents want a copy)
