Jump Jam challenge

Jump Jam!!

Last weekend on Saturday, our Jump Jam team from Haumoana School competed in a dance competition. It took place in Taupo in the Event Center.

It was our turn. We were up. Our team name got called out we walked up the steps getting into our position.

I was nervous so were the others so I took a big breath and walked on the stage. The music started, I was smiling all the way through the song. The song was finished. After the song was finished we had to answer some question.

We walked off the stage. We were waiting for our team name to get called out. I didn’t believe I heard it we came 3rd place yay!!!!
We all need to say a big thank you to Mrs Jensen and Mrs Clinton for guiding us.

Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge Reports

Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

5,4,3,2,1 beep. The horn went and I was off speeding down a gradual hill, I went up the hill. This hill was a long and gradual hill. As I got to the top I was puffing a bit. But I knew that I had another 40km to go. So I conserved my energy.

I knew that I had steep hills because I had, had look at the map before the race so I wasn’t going to go fast on the first hill. On the second hill it was long and steep so I sat on my seat and ground it up as I got to the top I saw my massive downhill. It was probably 2km down and as I was going down I reached up to 57.3km an hour. The next bit was all flat so I tucked in behind Mr Barclay so I would go faster.
I could see the next uphill ahead so I got my speed up a little bit more. As I got to the bottom I just ground it up the steep hill. The hill was about 2km up. When I got to the top and I sped down. As I went round the bend I saw another uphill and I thought to myself when are these hills going to finish. But when I got to the top I was so relived because the sign said that it was five hundred more meters to go I put my head down and sprinted for the finish line. Yay, I had finished my race. When I got to a person called Chris he helped me take all my stuff off my bike then we got on the bus and went back to Taupo. That was a fun day.

Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

I grab my bike and run to the exit where Mr Barclay was waiting for me. I got on my bike and off I went into my leg of the lake Taupo cycle challenge.
Into about ten kilometres of my leg it was my first hill. It was a long hill it was about four kilometres high. It was long and tiring.

After that I had a long stretch of small up hills and small down hills. After there was another hill but this one wasn’t as big. It was only small compared to the other hill. But at the top there was a massive downhill. It was about five kilometres long.

My top speed was when I went down Waihi Hill. My top speed was 53.7 kilometres.  After that Hill there were no more hills that meant that I could go flat stick the rest of the way.
Soon I came into Turangi and there was music playing and this funny blow up person on a blow up bike.
Finally I’m nearly finished there’s only 8 kilometres to go. I’m going round the last bend I sprint to the transition. I get off my bike and lie down on the grass , I can’t believe all my training has paid off. I ask Mum how long it took me she said an hour and 30 minutes I felt really proud of myself that it was my first time doing it and I did in an hour and 30 minutes.

The best part was going up Kuratau Hill even though it was really long.

Term 4 So Far

Term 4 so far has been full of obvious highlights for Room 6 (and Haumoana School).  Mathletics prizes galore, domination of the Triathlon Champs, Jump Jam finalists and last weekend four 10-year-old boys completing the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge as a relay team.  Just Magic!

These results are not overnight successes.  They are the culmination of hours of practice and training over  several months and would not happen without motivated children and supportive parents.  So well done all.

Another, not so obvious, highlight worth mentioning was the number of children who wished me and the boys luck for the Saturday ride.  Great manners, great attitudes!

Last Week's Cricket Report & Draw for 17th Nov

On Saturday the 10th of November Haumoana 1st XI played  Hereworth Stags B. Hereworth won the toss  and elected to bat first. They were on fire for the first ten overs. I think they were about 51/3 but then our bowlers started to kick in , after the next ten overs they were about 73/6. At the end of their innings they  had  88 runs.

Then it was Haumoana’s turn . Bhulvhai  & Sam were Haumoana’s first batsman, Bhulvhai hit a four & then stepped off the field. Then Luke stepped on. He stayed on for a long bat however Sam was dismissed for 9 runs. George joined to have an awesome partnership  up until Luke had to retire for 30 runs. Noah only stayed on for one over and went out for a duck, it was the first duck for the team.

Then Flynn ran on but he scored a duck too. Eagerly came Jessie.  He faced two overs to score 3 runs. While Jessie was in George was dismissed for 20 runs. Now Dhylan walked on and Jessie walked out. Lars ran on , a couple of overs later Dhylan was bowled out for a duck. Christian walked in with a smile & won the game for us. Lars had zero runs & didn’t get out . At the end of the day Haumoana won 90/8 to 88.

Player of the Day was George.

Triathlon Success

Hawkes Bay Triathlon Champs

On Wednesday morning at Haumoana School, all the triathletes were buzzing with excitement because the HB Triathlon Champs were today! Everyone was very nervous, but we all knew that we could succeed!

We all raced to the car park of Haumoana School, excited to see who got to Clive pools first! Finally, we all got to Farndon Park. Cyclists were putting their bikes on the racks, and the swimmers went inside to get changed.

Once everyone was ready, some of us put our school tent up. There was a lot of waiting. It was only 9.20, and the race didn’t start until 10.00! Finally, the race started! The swimmers dashed into the pool like lightning bolts. The team swimmers ran out of the pool to tag their cycle buddies. The Cyclists sped off into the distance. When they came back, they tagged the runners and off they went! The individuals were very fit and finished with impressive results!!!

Once the race was over, the prizes were ready. Everyone was eagerly waiting, hoping to get one of the awesome spot prizes! These are our results:

Individual:
1st Y5 boys Will
3rd Y5 boys Wesley
5th Y5 boys Noah

1st Y5 girls Tessa
5th Y5 girls Frances

1st Y6 boys Sam W
Teams:

So we were very successful! Mostly everyone was happy with their results.
Some of us got spot prizes. About 4 of us did. Some of us tried so hard that we looked like we were about to cry!
At the end of a long, hard day, we all deserved to sit down and relax. We all tried our hardest and represented the school properly, and the entire school was proud of us!
