VLK Duathlon

With the Ironkids Duathlon series coming up next term (1st event - Week 3, 6th August), Frances has got a head start on the rest of the class.  So far she has tackled 2 events in the VLK (very low key) duathlon series in Havelock North.  These events are aimed at the older age groups but Frances has managed the 2km run, 11km bike and 2km run very well and was able to improve her time by 31/2 minutes on Sunday.  A great performance Frances!
Check out the size of the opposition!

Mathletics - Week Ending 24th June

It was a very close competition last week for the top 3 who were only separated by 532 points.  Congratulations Aimee, Reid and Will!

BUT if you don't make it to the top 3, don't worry!  Just remember that the point is to get better at maths and a little and often will still see you make good progress!

Aimee - 13,381 pts
Reid - 13,055 pts
Will - 12,849 pts

New Photographer Needed!

Bike X @ Blackbarn

Well done Room Sixers for tackling the Bike X on Sunday.  It was a brilliant winters day and a great atmosphere at the event.  The results are now up on http://www.cxhb.blogspot.co.nz/.

I tried to get some action shots but need to practice with my camera as I only managed to get back wheels.  If any parents have some action shots, please email them to me so I can post them on the blog.

Spot the Haumoana children

Wesley and Will made the top ten with some tough competition from older cyclists.  A more wide open course and more aggressive start would have seen them closer to the front.   I have forwarded feedback from the children) on the course to the organisers so hopefully... more mud next time!

Eliminate the Friction?

The last week has seen Room 6 children working together in groups to make land yachts. We have being trying to reduce friction and maximise the distance gained by our fan powered vehicles. There have been some interesting designs. (names and labels to follow)

Lauren, Madeline & Mya had fun making this.

Zavanah, Madisyn, Maisie & Jazae

Orienteering Success

At Hawke's Bay Orienteering Relay Championships on Sunday, Room 6 children played a major role in clinching both the Boy's and Girl's Top School Titles for Haumoana School.

Tessa helped the girl's team to 1st place in the relay to back up her individual title while Will got the fastest split in the primary age group to assist his team to second place ensuring that Haumoana finished in top place overall.

Other Room 6 children, Oscar, Aidan and George, all improved and saved their best results for the champs as they made it to the podium, taking out third place .

Well done guys and girl!

Last week we were writing Quatrain poems which have 4 line verses including at least 2 rhyming lines. Lars was keen to publish his 2 verse Autumn quatrain.

SOCCER TOURNAMENT

On Saturday it was the junior soccer tournament. In the tournament were the Haumoana Hotshots, they were in pool A.

They faced the Taradale Sharks the Napier City Rovers and the Havelock North Kickers. In the first game they faced the Taradale Sharks we won 2 to 0. In the first half there wasn’t much action but then Will struck in an awesome goal so at half time it was 1 to 0 to the Haumoana Hotshots. In the second half the Haumoana scored another goal this time by Aidan so now the score was 2 -0. That was the game.

The first half of the second game Haumoana faced Napier City Rovers. In the first half there wasn’t a goal but there was a lot of action but in the second half Tessa scores a volley in to the back of the net so the score was 1-0 to Haumoana now that that was the second game.

Our final game was against the Havelock North kickers and we beat them by about 6-0 and I don’t know who scored the goals so that was that game. At the end of the tournament we put our results in and we won the tournament
