As the orienteering season nears end, it was great to see Room 6 children maintaining their skills and fitness by taking out club titles in the weekend.
Congratulations to Tessa who added to her earlier Primary champs win by winning the Girls 10yr title and Will who took out the boys 10yr title.
Room 6 would like to share some of their ideas and work with parents and family at home

Laura's Champs Report.
Check out Laura's reults on earlier post. |
I competed on the first day of competition and the top 16 got
through to the second day (which included me) which was on Friday. My
team got a bronze medal and I got 4th on vault and 5th on bar out of all of New
Zealand. I watched Jordan Rae who is an international gymnast - she did really
tricky stuff especially on the beam and the floor.
I hope to go to the Nationals again next year as a
Step 6 gymnast - I won't have far to go as it is in Hawke's Bay. So
you can all come and watch. :)"

Support Your Classmates! Click on the Pink Link
The entries have closed for the official iPad competition (its not too late to email me your photos for the class competition though! There have been some really interesting ones so far.).
Now is the time to click on the link to facebook and 'like' your friend's photos so they have a chance to win. If your photo is up there, make sure you get your friends and relations to 'like' it so you maximise your chances!
The new App is available if you already have an iPad (and it looks great on the school iPad)
PLUS the computer version has been updated too - check it out
(Mathletics Student also features an exciting update to the famous Live Mathletics game. The hugely popular 60-second mathematical race game returns with a sleek new interface and TEN competition levels - expanded to include word problems, algebra, number patterns and even logarithms! New-look Live Mathletics is also now available in desktop Mathletics too.)

Mathletics Here - Frances ft Lauren
Hi my name is Frances. In the
holidays Lauren and i went to Herbertville. Along the way we saw some
things:
1 |
1. The Longest
Place Name in The World. This place has 3 & 7/26's alphabets in its'
name - that is 85 letters. The name is in memory of Chief Tamatea's
brother who was killed here. It is near Porangahau.
2 |
2. Waterthletics
on Herbertville Beach.
3. Skulduggery
Mathletics.
3 |
4 |
4. Lambthletics -
Lauren and I spent lots of time playing with these lambs. There were 5
lambs who had lost their mums. The ones we are holding are called Soxy
(Lauren is holding) and Nibbler (the one i am holding). The other three are
called Boots, Fluffy and Lucky. Nibbler, Boots and Soxy are
triplets. The youngest lamb, Nibbler is 2 weeks old, the oldest, Lucky,
is 6 weeks old. Using Mathletics Ipad i calculate the variance is 4
weeks.
5 |
5. Mud
Mathletics. Lauren and I found black mud under the sand at
Herbertville. Some of it was so sinky I sunk up to my knees.
6. Mathletics with
a Spot of Tennis. On the way home we stopped for a spot of tennis at
Wimbledon. Tally-ho!

Mathletics Here - Oscar
Oscar @ Lake Rotoiti
We had a great
time at Lake Rotoiti. We spent 3 days there and it was awesome!! We soon
discovered a cliff with a huge hole in it, covered with creepers. Through that, was a secret beach with a jetty
(that's where we got some pictures). The water was sort of cold but manageable
(Mum wanted me to put my head under for a picture but it was a bit too cold for
THAT). On the last day, Lockie, Dad, Bruno and I, went kayaking. We paddled
round the shore to get to another beach (on an island) were you could dig a
hole and find hot/warm water. We had forgotten to bring a spade so we used our
oars. When we paddled back to our batch the water was very shallow and we had
to get out and push the kayaks along.
On the way home we
stopped at the Red Wood forest park for orienteering. It was very hard because the controls were tiny
and hidden VERY well. I could only find
the first checkpoint, and after a vain attempt to find the 2nd
checkpoint point I decided to walk back and admit defeat.
Dad said the second
one was on the side of a Bridge at ground level!! We weren’t timed either so I
couldn’t see how long I “got lost” for. (At least I have a 2-point advantage for next
time.)
Mathletics Here - Will
Hi my name is Will T, we did a lot
of mathletics in our class at Haumoana School and after we found an
engineering textbook in the library we knew we now had the
ability to build a spaceship. Our teacher, Mr Barclay laughed and told us
to go home and enjoy our holidays. Over the last week we all got together and
built the spaceship you see in this photo. Awesome, we made it to the moon and
now we're learning quantum physics. Mr Barclay still doesn't understand the
Higgs Boson, he should do Mathletics.
I guess this is what happens when rules aren't clearly stated:-) Mr B.
BUT THERE IS STILL MORE!
BUT THERE IS STILL MORE!
We did a lot of Mathletics in our
class at Haumoana School and we decided to use our new knowledge
to thank our teacher. Imagine Mr Barclays surprise when we altered
the space time continuum and brought Albert Einstein into our classroom !
We sent Mr Einstein back after
lunch.

Holiday Shots - 'Mathletics Here' Part 2
Everyone
needs a rest at the top of a long hill climb!
There's
nothing better than a bit of mathletics before the downhill.
We
are training for a 40 km cycle challenge around lake Taupo as a team. 40
km each.
In
the photo are me (Noah), my brother George and our best friend Wesley. We all
love cycling and Mathletics!
